Wrong-way drivers often cause serious car accidents

As any California resident understands, people who hold a driver's licence have a serious responsibility while operating a vehicle of any sort. They need to remember they are in control of a large piece of machinery, and car accidents often result when people fail to properly manage such a potentially dangerous machine. Therefore, it is imperative they follow the rules of the road and make responsible choices before getting behind the wheel, including avoiding drugs or alcohol. Unfortunately, even with so much media attention focused on the dangers of drunk driving, it seems some people continue to make poor choices before driving.

In a recent example, a driver was traveling in the wrong direction on the Santa Ana Freeway very early on a Saturday morning. According to the California Highway Patrol, the driver's vehicle collided head-on with another vehicle. Four occupants of the vehicle that was hit were injured, three of them seriously.

A 44-year-old woman, a 49-year-old man and a 50-year-old man all suffered major injuries in the crash. Another 44-year-old woman sustained minor injuries. Paramedics transported the victims to two different area hospitals. The wrong-way driver has been arrested on suspicion of DUI.

Car accidents can happen for many different reasons, and some of those reasons are beyond the control of the driver. In this case, however, the person who appears to have caused the accident apparently consciously made a poor choice before driving and now faces serious consequences. The injured victims are likely suffering emotionally, physically and probably also financially, as they will encounter unexpected medical expenses and lost income. People experiencing this type of situation may be able to recoup monetary losses. An experienced California personal injury attorney can review individual case details and explain legal options.
