On-the-job injuries lead to $13 million settlement with Tesla

California residents would likely agree that all workers have the right to expect a safe work environment, no matter their employer. However, on-the-job injuries, unfortunately, can and do occur in many different types of workplace settings. Although some workplaces come with more potential for injuries, such as car manufacturing plants, these employers have a responsibility to be even more diligent about maintaining safety standards and providing proper training for all employees.

Recently, a woman who worked as a janitor at a Tesla plant in Fremont reached a $13 million settlement agreement before the opening statements began in her case. The incident happened in 2014. Reportedly, the woman, while performing her janitorial duties at the plant, was struck twice by a Tesla vehicle driven by another employee. She was initially pinned between two vehicles, and the driver then struck her again.

According to the claim, the woman suffered serious injury to her lower extremities, and she is now permanently disabled as a result of the incident. Her attorney has said she will never be able to work again. Both the woman and the Tesla driver who struck her were employed by different staffing companies. A Tesla spokesperson has said that the company that employed the driver will be responsible for paying most of the settlement.

In a case such as this, when a worker is permanently disabled and unable to work again in any capacity, the disabled person and his or her family will likely encounter financial difficulties due to loss of an income, as well as various unexpected medical expenses. California residents who, like this woman, have suffered on-the-job injuries may consider discussing their case with an attorney experienced in this area of the law. Although the injury itself cannot be reversed, victims may be able entitled to recoup their monetary losses.
