California car accidents: 8 pedestrians injured at crosswalk

Most California drivers spend their time behind the wheel of a car focusing on avoiding a collision with other vehicles, pedestrians or inanimate objects. However, for whatever reason, occasionally a driver appears to do the exact opposite and deliberately crashes into someone or something. Car accidents of this type are rare, but police suspect this may have been what happened in a suburb of San Jose. The driver is now charged with eight counts of attempted murder.

The incident happened on a recent Tuesday evening. According to witness statements, the driver appeared to accelerate as he approached an intersection where a group of people was crossing. He plowed into pedestrians in the crosswalk and on the sidewalk. At least eight people were injured, ranging in age from 9 to 52. Several victims were transported to local hospitals with varying degrees of injury, and one victim, a 13-year-old, remains in hospital in critical condition.

The driver, a 34-year-old man, did not have any apparent injuries following the crash. Police executed a search warrant of his apartment. Reportedly, they have not found a link between the driver and the victims nor any connection to a terrorist organization. The incident remains under investigation, but authorities have stated it appears to have been an intentional act. However, they do not yet know a motive.

This man now faces serious charges. Although the motive behind his reckless behavior remains unknown for now, the results are clear. Several people have been injured, at least one critically. The families of seriously injured victims of car accidents such as this one have the right to pursue the matter in California civil court. An experienced personal injury lawyer can review individual case details and provide guidance on legal options.
