California car accidents: 1 dead, 1 injured in 3-vehicle crash

Instead of celebrating renewed life at Easter, the family of one man in California is likely mourning their loss. However, they may have to deal with more than that because the driver who died may have caused the accident. As with the case with all car accidents that result in serious injury to others and the driver at fault was killed, his or her estate can face lawsuits from those adversely affected in an attempt to recover damages.

The collision occurred in Lake Forest on the evening of Sunday, April 21, and involved a pickup truck, a sedan and a Jeep. According to the Orange County Sheriff's Department, the crash happened at the intersection of Entrados Drive and Muirlands Boulevard. From information taken from eyewitnesses, the driver of the Jeep purportedly tried to cross the boulevard without yielding to oncoming traffic.

As a result, the Jeep collided with the sedan and the pickup, causing the Jeep to roll over. The driver of the Jeep, identified only as a man, was declared dead at the scene. The pickup driver did not suffer injuries, but the sedan driver was transported to a hospital for treatment of unknown injuries.

Although losing loved ones in car accidents is tragic, especially during a holiday, if it can be proven the Jeep driver's negligence caused the crash, the injured victim can sue his estate to recover compensation for medical costs, lost wages and other associated monetary damages. Authorities are still investigating the crash, and their findings may help establish negligence on the part of the Jeep driver. If liability is established in a California civil court, damages stemming from this tragic wreck in California will be adjudicated for inclusion in a monetary judgment awarded by the court.
