Multi-vehicle car accidents can cause serious damage

Most California drivers understand the importance of paying close attention to one's surroundings while behind the wheel and that speed must be adjusted according to such variables as weather conditions, traffic situations and obstacles of any sort. Drivers who fail to slow down when necessary can sometimes cause car accidents resulting in tremendous damage. Such was the case in a recent multi-vehicle pileup on the San Bernardino Freeway in Claremont that left one person dead and many others injured, some critically.

The crash happened very early on a recent Sunday morning. According to the California Highway Patrol, a 30-year-old man triggered the crash when he was traveling in the carpool lane at a high speed considering current traffic conditions. He rear-ended another vehicle that had stopped due to road construction. Because of the impact, that vehicle in turn hit another vehicle. The original vehicle continued and hit yet another vehicle, which then struck another vehicle.

According to a Los Angeles County Fire Department dispatcher, ultimately, at least 15 vehicles were involved in the accident. Reportedly, the driver of the first vehicle struck, a 22-year-old man, died in the crash. Two other people were critically injured and nine others suffered minor injuries. The man who allegedly triggered the accident was released on scene with minor injuries. Authorities are seeking witnesses in their ongoing investigation.

Car accidents involving multiple vehicles often significantly impact many people. In this case, one young man lost his life, while at least two others endured serious injuries. While it is unclear at this point if this driver was cited by police, when the investigation is complete, authorities may conclude that his actions caused the crash. In this case, the survivors and their families may wish to consult with a California personal injury lawyer to discuss options for legal recourse.
