Motorcycle accidents: California man struck and killed

Many California residents understand the appeal of motorcycles as a mode of transportation, as they can be fun to ride, and they allow the rider to enjoy being outside at the same time as the biker is getting from one place to another. Unfortunately, perhaps due to the vehicle's compact structure, motorcycle accidents happen all too often, and when they happen, typically, the motorcycle rider will not fare well. Such was the case in a recent accident when a motorcycle rider died following a collision with a truck.

The incident happened early one recent Monday morning at an intersection. The driver of the truck attempted a left turn, while the motorcyclist proceeded westbound through the intersection. Likely sensing a collision, the motorcyclist made attempts to avoid it, but unfortunately, the 21-year-old truck driver collided with the smaller vehicle.

The 56-year-old motorcyclist suffered severe trauma and died from his injuries at the scene. The truck driver remained on the scene and cooperated with investigators. Police say they do not believe drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.

Motorcycle accidents can easily happen when a driver fails to see the smaller vehicles on the road, and as happened in this case, often the results are tragic. Although the truck driver apparently was not driving while impaired, the investigation results may nevertheless reveal that his negligence caused the crash. If that is the case, the victim's family has the right to pursue a wrongful death lawsuit in California civil court. If successfully litigated, such a lawsuit could provide monetary compensation to cover some of the unexpected expenses the family may be encountering, such as funeral costs and lost future income.
