Motorcycle accidents -- hit-and-run accident leads to injuries

One driver was the cause of serious injuries to multiple persons in two related accidents on a recent Sunday in November. At first, in a hit-and-run accident, a biker was seriously injured. Then, the fleeing driver crashed head-on into another vehicle.

California Highway Patrol received reports of the first accident at about 5:10 p.m. Then, at about 5:24 p.m., just 12 minutes later, the same car was involved in another accident. Reports indicate that the 33-year-old female driver first collided with the motorcyclist and then, while fleeing that accident scene, crashed head-on into a vehicle with five occupants.

Authorities were forced to close the highway in both directions for nearly three hours. Ambulances and helicopters were called to the scene to transport six injured victims to hospitals in the region. The only person who escaped injuries was the female driver of the vehicle who had caused both accidents.

The woman was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence and now faces charges of felony DUI. The accident is still under investigation, and authorities have called on any witnesses to come to the fore. Criminal charges may follow.

Irrespective of possible criminal charges, the seriously injured victims have the choice to file personal injury claims against the alleged drunk driver. Californian law allows for the victims of accidents, including motorcycle accidents, to file a claim against an alleged reckless or negligent driver. Should driver negligence be proved as the root cause of the accident, financial damages may be awarded by a court of law in a successfully litigated case.
