Truck accidents: Big rig driver suffers serious injuries in crash

Drivers of big rigs are not often the ones who suffer severe injuries when they are involved in collisions. In most truck accidents, it is the occupants of smaller vehicles that are worst off. However, on a recent Thursday evening, an alleged impaired driver caused a crash that sent the truck operator to a California hospital with serious injuries.

According to the California Highway Patrol reports, the crash occurred shortly before 11 p.m. on the southbound side of a 215 Freeway overpass. Reportedly, a vehicle smashed into a big rig hauling a load of fruit. The impact sent the truck through the guardrail of the bridge, causing the trailer to detach from the cab before striking three vehicles on the road below.

Witnesses say bystanders and passersby pulled the truck driver from the cab moments before the wreck burst into flames. The driver of the vehicle that struck the big rig drove off without stopping, but law enforcement arrested him later. CHP charged the driver with driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident that caused injuries.

Injured victims of truck accidents in California might be entitled to pursue financial relief by filing a personal injury lawsuit in a civil court. For such a claim to be successful, the plaintiff must prove that another party's negligence caused the crash. This might be a challenging endeavor that could be simplified with the support and guidance of an experienced personal injury attorney. With the advocacy of legal counsel, a monetary judgment might be entered to cover medical expenses and other financial losses along with emotional damages like pain and suffering.
