Man dies in motorcycle crash with inadequate helmet

A recent news story is a tragic example of the dangers motorcyclists can face when out riding. While the benefits may outweigh the risks, motorcycle accidents are very commonplace and can very easily be fatal or completely life changing.

A man from Canada was staying in California with his wife for the winter and was tragically killed in a motorcycle accident in January. He was reportedly following a curve in the road and went onto the shoulder of the road, which was unpaved dirt. Even though he was not thought to have been traveling in excess of 40 miles per hour, he lost control and was thrown from his motorcycle. The man was flung onto a lane of traffic and subsequently hit by the side of a trailer being hauled by a pickup.

Other motorists stopped to help and cleared the motorcycle from the roadway. The pickup truck's driver moved the motorcycle in order to clear the way for emergency responders. While lifesaving measures were taken, it was not enough to rescue the motorcyclist. The man was wearing a helmet, but it was not a model approved by the Department of Transportation.

If you or a loved one have been injured in a motorcycle accident, it may warrant investigation, even if it appears to be nobody's fault. If roadways are not properly maintained and present hazards to their navigators, if helmets were sold as DOT approved and were not, these are all factors that could point to fault and a right to compensation. Consulting a California motorcycle accident attorney is a great way to determine if an investigation is warranted into causation and possible financial relief.
