Six killed in California trucking accident

A recent fatal crash on a Californian highway once again illustrates the tragic damage one single reckless action can cause. The trucking accident happened on a Tuesday in early September. Five people died at the scene of the crash, while the sixth person died in hospital.

According to police reports, a semi-truck was struck by an SUV after the SUV driver failed to stop at a stop sign. The 58-year-old truck driver was seriously injured. He had to be airlifted to a hospital in the area. He passed away six days after the accident.

The other five fatalities were all occupants of the SUV. It appears that the five male occupants of the SUV may be related since they share the same surname. Their ages range between 49 and 66, which may point to each having his own family.

This accident is a clear illustration of the devastation one thoughtless act can create. As many as six families, but definitely two, now have to face a future without a father and possibly a breadwinner. One single moment changed their lives irrevocably.

Fortunately, in California, the legal estate of a deceased victim of a trucking accident has the right to pursue a wrongful death suit. Successfully litigated, wrongful death claims provide for the reimbursement of any related monetary damages. Monetary damages awarded from a successful wrongful death claim may help the family of the deceased to better cope with the unexpected expenses, such as funeral and burial costs, as well as the loss of a regular income.
