Motorcycle accidents: Fatal accident underscores vulnerability

An accident between a motorcycle and a car on a recent Sunday evening in July left one person seriously injured and another dead. The accident provides yet another example of the vulnerability of bikers when involved in motorcycle accidents. In most instances, things turn out badly for those on the motorcycle.

According to California traffic authorities, the accident, which happened approximately 6 p.m., seems to have been caused by the driver of the car. They believe that the 52-year-old car driver failed to see the motorcycle and turned into its path. None of the four occupants of the car was injured.

When the police arrived on the accident scene, they found both the 25-year-old biker and his passenger trapped under the vehicle. Both were taken to hospital. Unfortunately, the female passenger succumbed to her injuries and died shortly before 11:30 p.m. The biker's injuries are considered serious. They do not believe that alcohol or drugs played any role in the accident.

In California, victims of motorcycle accidents who suffered serious injuries may institute personal injury claims. Successfully litigated personal injury civil claims provide for the reimbursement for documented financial losses. Monetary damages awarded from a successful claim could help the victim better cope with medical bills, rehabilitation costs and any lost wages due to missing time from work. Furthermore, the legal estate of the deceased female has the right to pursue a wrongful death lawsuit. Claims for financial losses, such as funeral and burial costs, may be made against the party whose negligent actions are deemed to have caused or contributed to the fatal accident.
