Uber autonomous car rollout experiences legal/technical glitches

It is incredible how quickly a company can fall from the good graces of the public and government. Earlier this year, Uber was a technological darling with the rollout of its autonomous car program in Pittsburgh. It was touted as the future of driving as the downtown was crisscrossed with self-driven cars. In furtherance of those goals, Uber began rolling out its technology to California, specifically, in San Francisco. Unfortunately, it isn't going as planned.

Uber is experiencing both technical and legal problems in California. Regarding the legal problems, autonomous car operators are required to apply for and receive a certificate of compliance. Uber, thus far, refuses to comply with California regulatory authorities, despite stringent threats of imminent lawsuits.

Regarding the technical issues, Uber self-driven cars appear to have trouble adapting to road conditions. Several bystanders have recorded autonomous Uber vehicles running red lights, stop signs, and committing other traffic violations. Furthermore, even more disturbing, Uber self-driven cars thus far are unable to maneuver in bike lanes safely. Several bystanders have observed Uber cars executing sharp "hook turns" into bike lanes. California forbids these turns in bike lanes because it significantly increases the likelihood of a bicycle-car collision. Rather, cars are required to merge into bike lanes to ensure that everyone on the road is alert to the right turn and able to respond safely.

If you were injured in an auto accident, you might want to speak to an attorney. You are entitled to recover damages for your injuries, even if the car is autonomous or semi-autonomous. You are entitled to fair compensation for your injuries, whether you seek recovery from an insurance company, an individual or business. A lawyer can help you sift through the various legal loopholes to help ensure that you get the money you need to rebuild your life and your family.
