CHP offers a motorcycle training course

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) offers a motorcycle safety training course. The safety program is mandatory for drivers under 21, but it is recommended for everyone who rides motorcycles. Motorcycles experience a disproportionate number of fatalities about their numbers on the road. Good practices and prudent safety is the best way to ensure that you stay safe on the roads and avoid becoming another statistic.

The safety course is 15 hours long. It includes 5 hours of classroom instruction and 10 hours of riding instruction. The CHP also offers an additional course, the Premier programs, which include an additional 7.5 hours of classroom and 13.5 hours of riding instruction.

The CHP trains thousands of motorcyclists every year and expects 65,000 this year. They operate 120 training sites all over California to ensure that everyone who wants training, can get it. Upon successful completion of the course, riders receive the DMV DL389 which waives the driving test requirement at the DMV for the motorcycle license.

The topics covered during the course are for novice riders (but everyone is encouraged to attend). They include motorcycle turning, how to address far, cornering strategies, and emergency crash avoidance skills.

If you are a motorcycle accident victim, you should probably contact a lawyer for assistance. Hopefully, your injuries were not serious, but if you suffered severe injuries or permanent disability, you would need the help of an attorney. Many car insurance policies are capped at a certain amount and, depending on the severity of your injuries, it is possible that the insurance caps will not cover the entirety of your medical costs. You shouldn't get stuck paying the bill; you were the victim, an attorney can help you get compensation for your injuries.
