California motorcycle accident: 3-vehicle crash leaves 1 dead

California is a popular state for motorcyclists, thanks to its famously traffic-jammed freeways and a law allowing lane-splitting. Unfortunately, a high number of motorcycles means a high number of motorcycle accidents. In one of the most recent, which occurred in late February, one man lost his life.

The accident occurred in the Northern California town of Modesto in the early evening hours of Feb. 25. According to the report released by a local newspaper, the motorcyclist, who was headed west, was cut off at a stop sign by a pickup truck that had already been stationary. The officials have no idea why the truck's driver maneuvered into the path of the motorcycle.

The maneuver caused the motorcycle to hit the truck's left side, which pushed the motorcycle into oncoming traffic. Upon entering the eastbound lane, the motorcycle was hit by a utility truck. When emergency medical personnel arrived at the scene, the motorcyclist had already succumbed to his injuries. Officials do not believe the crash was alcohol- or drug-related, and they continue to investigate.

When a motorcycle accident occurs that leaves a family without a loved one, that family may wish to pursue wrongful death compensation. After a motorcycle crash like this one, a family who wants to file a wrongful death claim should follow the accident's official investigation closely. If law enforcement cites a driver for his or her involvement in a crash, that citation could be used as evidence of negligence that led to a loved one's death. Family members who want help with the legal side of a wrongful death claim can benefit greatly from the assistance of an experienced personal injury attorney.
