Slip-and-fall accident chances can increase during rainy periods

It is easy for anyone to image that California residents are more likely to suffer from slip-and-fall accidents when the state is experiencing heavy rainfall. Rainfall can make sidewalks, floors and roadways unexpectedly slick, and Californians, many of whom are unused to heavy rainfall, can be caught unaware. As there is the chance of increased risk during rainy periods, it is the responsibility of property owners to make sure their premises are as safe as possible for visitors. If they neglect their responsibilities and a slip-and-fall accident results in an injury, a premises liability suit can be the result.

To prevent slip-and-fall accidents, there are several precautions property owners can take. Doormats should be in place to absorb excess water, and these mats should monitored and changed when they become waterlogged. In addition, extra janitorial staff may be needed to ensure the removal of standing water from high-traffic areas.

Retailers are not the only property owners who need to be extra aware during rainy periods. Municipalities need to be aware of possible dangers in the form of cracked sidewalks or holes in pedestrian areas. Many of these dangers can be obscured by standing water, making it difficult for pedestrians to see and avoid them.

If you were injured in a slip-and-fall accident on another person's property, and your accident was caused by negligent maintenance, you may want to consider pursuing a premises liability suit. When presented successfully in a California civil court, compensation may be awarded for resulting damages. This compensation can be invaluable to your financial situation when your injuries result in medical bills or time away from work.
