Rear-end collision in Los Angeles injures 4, two seriously

It is almost axiomatic that, given its mass and kinetic energy, a truck in motion can be a dangerous vehicle in the event of an accident. However, four people in the Baldwin Hills neighborhood of Los Angeles recently learned that colliding with a truck can result in serious injury even when its ignition is off.

The chain of events that led to the accident began when a commercial truck broke down in the very early morning hours on a Sunday. The occupants of the vehicle, perhaps given the day and the time, apparently decided that it was safe to attempt to push it themselves.

While they were engaged in this endeavor, however, the proximate cause of the accident took place when a passenger vehicle came up from behind them and rear-ended the truck.

The collision injured four people, two of them seriously. Two of the three of the truck occupants who were pushing it suffered serious injuries. The driver of the passenger car was also hurt.

Car accidents involving a rear-end collision are in many cases hard to explain, without pointing to a negligent driver of the vehicle that struck the other from behind. Nevertheless, a full investigation will help determine which of the parties were at fault in causing the accident. Given the fact that it was 3:45 a.m. and during the weekend when the accident occurred, it is possible that one or many of the people involved may have been intoxicated. An investigation will confirm whether alcohol played a role in the crash.

When the underlying facts are finally settled, a cause of action for personal injury to those involved in the incident may help them recover compensation from the party or parties determined to be at fault.
